The first Pixar film to be solely directed by a woman, the first to take place in Canada, and the second to feature an Asian lead character after Up – Turning Red is out now on Disney+. Directed by Domee Shi, Turning Red is the computer-animated coming-of-age fantasy comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang) is a confident, dorky thirteen-year-old torn between staying her mother’s (Sandra Oh) dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited, Mei “poofs” into a giant red panda.
