S1 E15: “Saying the quiet part out loud” with Dr Dara Horn
Dr Dara Horn is a multi-award-winning author and a scholar of Hebrew and Yiddish literature who has taught Jewish literature at Harvard University, Sarah Lawrence College and Yeshiva University. Dara joins Podcast Against Antisemitism to discuss her latest award-winning book, People Love Dead Jews: Reports From a Haunted Present, which, in a series of essays, looks at how antisemitism has been viewed throughout history, and questions why the world’s dominant narrative of the Jewish people seems to focus on their deaths. She also discusses her response to the Colleyville synagogue hostage attack, why she started studying Talmud, and whether Yiddish is making a comeback.
Plus, Campaign Against Antisemitism’s Programme Manager, Binyomin Gilbert, explains why Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has invoked so much rhetoric relating to the Holocaust and Nazis, whether the presence of actual neo-Nazis on the battlefield is significant, and the reaction of the global far-right to the war.
