The country recently carried out two, claiming they were to test equipment for the eventual deployment of a “reconnaissance satellite.” But this may not be the whole story. The hermit kingdom has launched satellites before, but analysts think they are no longer operational. Kim Jong Un has suggested that new ones are needed to gather information on “US imperialism and its vassal forces”.
