History
Dating back to the first century, Indian culture started making its way into the region of Southeast Asia. Kingdoms in the southeast coast of the Indian Subcontinent had established trade, cultural and political relations with Southeast Asian kingdoms in Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, Malay Peninsula, Philippines, Cambodia and Champa. This led to Indianization and Sanskritisation of Southeast Asia. Indian Literatures like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra, Jataka stories among others were very popular among the people of South East Asia. Modifications were also made in them according to their cultures and traditions. Ramayana Ramayana is one of the greatest literary works on India.
