The Oblivion Bar: A Nerd-Culture Podcast
TV & Film
News and Notes (04:30)
For episode 73, Chris and Aaron discuss Bruce Willis retiring from his acting career due to being diagnosed with aphasia and the sequel to THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD has been delayed until Spring 2023.
Main Topic (18:45)
For our main topic, Chris sits down with Douglas Wolk, who is a renowned pop-culture critic, teacher, and writer of works like 2004’s James Brown’s Live at the Apollo, which is about a performance James Brown gave in Harlem one night during the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 and the classic album that it became, 2007’s Eisner and Harvey Award-winning Reading Comics: How Graphic Novels Work and What They Mean, and Judge Dredd: Mega-City Two with artist Ulises Fariñas [Fur-knees], where Judge Dredd is sent to Mega-City Two, the West Coast megalopolis that sprawls around what was once Los Angeles.
What most probably know him for is his most recent book: 2021’s All of the Marvels: A Journey to the Ends of the Biggest Story Ever Told, where we read EVERY Marvel comic up to that point (roughly 27,000 single issues) and wrote about why you should never do that.
