141. Rooted Pt. 4 - Rooted in Community - Choosing and Pursuing it
You all have probably heard the idiom “Blood is thicker than water” and most of us know it to mean that familial or blood-related relationships are stronger than non-familial relationships. On today’s episode, we discuss its original meaning and how it is exactly opposite of how most people use it. The original saying is actually, "Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb" - and it’s talking about bloodshed on the battlefield. So, "blood is thicker than water" actually means that bloodshed on the battlefield creates stronger ties than the water of the womb does.
And today, The Adkins and Corley couples are tackling Part 4 of the Rooted Series and talking about friendship and community and how the bloodshed on the battlefield of this world can create a strong bond, uniquely pulling and holding unrelated families together. And truly, how Jesus’ shed blood does that for ALL of us - related or not.
We talk about how our community came to be - i.e. God chose it and ordained it - and how our community endures and perseveres with the busyness and balance of life and work and family - i.e. we CHOOSE it and pursue it. And we share more personally about what this community looks like for the guys/the husbands and just how that differs from the relationship the women/the wives have.
There are jokes and laughter and reminiscing and possibly even tears (from the guys, of course) throughout this episode and I just know you’ll be encouraged and blessed through getting a peek into this little community of ours and hearing the heart behind it and within it.
Enjoy, friends!
