Our special guest will be 53 year FDNY veteran Fire Commissioner Dan Nigro.
He was appointed in 1969 and assigned to Engine 21. In 1977 was promoted to Lt. and worked in Engine 35. In 1982 became Captain of Engjne 8. Was promoted in 1986 to Battalion Chief and assigned to Bn 19. Was in HQ from 1988-1991. From 1991-92 worked in Bn 28. 1993 was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to Div 3. In 1995 promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief Operations. In 1996 Chief of EMS. In 1997 to Assistant Chief Operations. In 1999 Chief of Operations. 2001 Chief of Department. He Retired from FDNY in 2002. Became Fire Commissioner in 2014 until 2022. He was instrumental in merging the Emergency Medical Service into the FDNY. Following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, he was appointed Chief of Department with the death of Chief Peter J. Ganci, Jr. He was responsible for overseeing all rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center site and the beginning of the unprecedented rebuilding of the Department. Commissioner Nigro is only the sixth individual to hold every rank in the Department in the agency's history.
