ep. 7 The Journey Into the Void (feat. Dave Powers of Objective Personality)

In this episode, I'm joined by Dave Powers of Objective personality. We talk about the hero's journey that every human embarks on as they attempt to solve what Carl Jung refers to as "the type problem."

"In attempting to answer this question, I came across the problem of types; for it is one's psychological type which from the outset determines and limits a person's judgment." - Carl Jung

In Dave's system of Objective Personality, he describes it as: if you over-rely on your "savior" functions and are not responsible for your "demon" functions, you should expect a demon "tidal wave."

How do we walk that path? Carl Jung would say that this path is individuation: the path of becoming the Self by including more psychic components in your conscious awareness.

You may have heard of the "hero's journey", popularized by Joseph Campbell (who was influenced by Jung). This is the journey we all embark on as we individuate.

"A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man." - Joseph Campbell.

Oftentimes, that journey can feel like staring deep into the void. This is because the energy that we invest into our dominant or savior functions can create a black hole in the opposite direction. These are our demons, and we must face them.

In my chat with Dave (INTJ), we discuss what that self-growth journey looks like, examples from our personal lives, and some tips for those on the path.
