In the autumn of 1999 I wandered into a New Age store located in Portland, Oregon.
As I browsed the books, my ear caught the opening strains of some otherworldly guitar and synth music. I asked the clerk what he was playing, and it turned out to be a new release entitled “Sleeping On The Edge of the World”, by a composer named David Helpling. As an electric guitarist myself, I could resonate deeply with David’s visionary style, melodic structures, and innovative use of effects processing to create a deep, ambient and dreamlike soundscape. In a word, I was hooked.
After you hear David’s story, and the examples of his music, I think you may become a huge fan of his music too.
