Reporters Without Orders Ep 216: Jahangirpuri violence, Gurugram namaz row
This week, host Nidhi Suresh is joined by Newslaundry’s Tanishka Sodhi and Laasya Shekhar.
Laasya talks about her report on the violence in Jahangirpuri and how, when she visited the area a day later, the fear on the ground was palpable. “People were afraid and also a bit hesitant to trust me because of the language barrier,” she says on her experience.
Tanishka talks about her story on the Gurugram namaz row, a follow-up to the events of October last year. She says she wanted to revisit the spot to see if anything had changed. “There are people who have stopped going out for Jumma namaz due to fear,” she says. “I have understood the privilege of a bindi or just a name after all this.”
The panel also talks about their experiences in reporting on violence, and how it has helped in shaping their mindsets.
This, and a lot more, as they talk about what made news, what didn’t, and what shouldn’t have.
Tune in.
