When you begin to dig into our very own human history - it turns out that the truth can ABSOLUTELY be radder than fiction!
This week we dive into the strange and the macabre as we explore an ancient item that was said to hold magical powers...
We discuss the bizarre origins, folklore, and fascinating story of THE HAND OF GLORY.
Back in medieval Europe, it turns out it was rather commonplace for people to get their hands lopped off for committing various crimes. Some of these obviously make sense (if these punishments are believed to be derived from the Code of Hammurabi) but, some of the reasons people were chopping off hands back then...well, let's just say 90% of our University bar population would have been in danger.
It's no wonder then, that at some point someone discovered a use for all these "extra appendages" laying about in pub window sills or fireplace mantles.
But, buried within this story AND this week's episode is an incredible connection to a case we discussed in a prior episode.
This was a completely unexpected discovery during the research for this episode.
You'd never guess that somehow we begin discussing The Hand of Glory - only to end up knee deep in espionage, the Tower of London, Nazi spies, and a murder mystery that we may have actually solved ON THIS SHOW.
Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!
