Pasture improvement: How to make a hard block more productive
Ned Williams and his father Kim are based just north of Dubbo on their third generation property, “Polldale”. Together, Ned, Kim and their families run a shorthorn cattle stud with a pasture system, focused on tropical pastures and lucerne irrigated using local effluent.
In this episode, Kim talks about the challenges they have faced while introducing tropical pastures and improved grazing management to build the health of their poorer soils. And, as Ned explains, it has taken a generational effort to transform their land into a more productive and sustainable place for his own children and their future generations.
Local Land Services Cropping Officer, Tim Bartimote, had a good look around the farm with Ned and Kim before sitting down at the house for this chat.
