Ryan Carter of DC Outfitters joins Sam on The Wild Initiative to talk trophy hunting giant elk. After a recording button malfunction, Sam and Ryan get back to their discussion about how elk behave differently during different seasons and why, contrary to popular thinking, he hates to trophy-hunt elk during the rut. They then discuss why it’s critical to be an educated advocate for the defense of hunting. Ryan reminisces about one of his most memorable guide trips in the past few years and he discusses some of the negatives within the hunting industry, including how cutthroat the guide world can get along with the poison of others doing whatever they can to lessen or invalidate others’ hunting successes. They then close out discussing the importance of hunting and technology regulation, but how it so often can be mismanaged by our government officials. Regulations based solely on public opinion as an example. As Ryan says, “Since when does conservation address issues based on feelings and social matters rather than f#$king science?!”
