In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino return to the studio to put a bow on USC's spring football game in front of a Coliseum spring game record crowd of over 33,000 that was shown live nationally on ESPN. Head coach Lincoln Riley wanted to showcase all of the work the players and coaches put in over the past five weeks and in our opinion they accomplished that objective. The entire atmosphere around the Coliseum was extremely welcoming with events for all of the fans in attendance and the product on the field was also intriguing, with two live 15-minute halves of football that gave the feeling of an actual game.
The new players were finally introduced to Trojan fans (and the media) and everyone came away from the game with a better understanding of who those players are and how this team could potentially look when they kick off against Rice on September 3. Quarterback Caleb Williams came in with a lot of hype and he delivered, throwing a pair of touchdown passes to his former Oklahoma teammate Mario Williams. Former SEC linebackers Shane Lee and Romello Height also made positive impressions with their play on the field and leadership off of it. Former Pac-12 stars like former Oregon running back Travis Dye, former Stanford running back Austin Jones, former Colorado wide receiver Brenden Rice and former Washington receiver Terrell Bynum all looked good wearing Cardinal and Gold, giving the Trojans more weapons and more depth while draining some of the talent from the rest of the conference.
The guys also dig into the pending NCAA Transfer Portal deadline of May 1, looking at some of the players Riley could potentially add before fall camp starts and how fast and furious things could get over the coming weeks and months.
