Macron wins a second term; what's next for France?
On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron won a second term in the French elections. But his victory is complicated by the record showing of his far-right opponent, Marine Le Pen. With legislative elections looming in June and the intensifying Russia-Ukraine war threatening European cooperation, what did Sunday night tell us about the future of France?
On this episode, Denzil Davidson, former advisor to Theresa May and Adviser on EU and multilateral policy at Global Counsel, is joined by Olivier Costa, CNRS Senior Researcher, and Executive Editor, Journal of European Integration. They discuss what the results mean for domestic policy and politics and the implications of the election results on France’s agenda for the end of its presidency at the Council of the EU.
