Belle Gunness seemed to have some of the worst luck. Her business burned down, her home burned down, and her children and her husbands always seemed to be dying, but their life insurance policies were always paid up and ready to be paid out to Belle. After her home burned down, she and her daughters moved to a farm in La Porte, Indiana.
Belle started getting lonesome and put an ad out for male suitors to visit her home. In the 1900's it was easy lie to questioning family or police that a person who had been thought as missing didn't just pack up and move to Chicago or some far away town...the male suitors arrived, but few left the property alive.
Was this still bad luck, or did Belle have something to do with all of the sudden deaths that took place around her?
