Journey To Self Advocacy and Leaning Into Fear with Sarah Goldman
Sarah Goldman is the Director of Youth Leadership at The Florida Independent Living Council (FILC). On this episode with Sarah takes us through her journey into advocacy, what she’s learned along the way, how she leans into her fears, and the important of empathy and resilience. She shares about how her father taught her the importance of never taking no for an answer and if someone says no, you work to figure out a way to do it.
Sarah shares her specific activities that she does in her role with FILC and talks about the Youth Leadership Forum, which will be held summer 2022 in Tallahassee. She talks about how YLF has a formula for empowerment, helps to solidify a unity and community of people with disabilities, and how it provides access to resources and opportunities. Tony and Sarah have dive into the issues that are important to the younger generation today, such as employment and disability benefits. They also discuss the pandemic, social isolation, and both the advantages and pitfalls of social media.
Together, they share an important conversation regarding personal care assistance and how it plays a key role in providing independence for those with disabilities, as well as, the issues regarding high quality personal care assistance to help people maintain their independence. Sarah is truly an inspirational individual with a lot of heart and a lot of knowledge and experience to teach others about how to live an independent life and to live a life of unity.
