Dr. Markus Göransson, “Russian Military Thinking: New War & the Strategy of Limited Actions”
The performance of the Russian military during its invasion of Ukraine has raised a number of questions about their objectives and strategy for achieving them. Joining the #BruteCast from Sweden, Dr. Markus Göransson will discuss the invasion in the context of Russian military thinking about new wars - characterized by rapid, small-scale, surprise attacks and prominent use of SOFs and information warfare - and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov’s “strategy of limited actions.”
Dr. Markus Göransson is an Assistant Professor in War Studies at the Swedish Defence University, where his research focuses on Russian military debates, Russian land warfare in Syria and Russian tactical learning. He holds a PhD in International Politics from Aberystwyth University in the United Kingdom.
