In the early morning hours of December 30, 1999, on a remote stretch of plains in Welch, Oklahoma, a couple got up early for work. As they headed out, they saw one of their neighbors' trailers on fire. With the help of other neighbors, the police and fire department were called. After the fire was extinguished, volunteer firemen found remains of a body so badly burned, they could barely tell if it was female or male. It turned out to be the body of Kathy Freeman, a mother and wife of Danny Freeman, whose corpse was also found a day later. But what had become of their 17-year-old daughter Ashley and her friend, Lauria Bible who had stayed over that night? Not only did authorities have to search for the missing girls, but needed to solve the mystery of who would have wanted to shoot Danny and Kathy and set fire to their home. That quest would lead everyone in the town on a search for answers, involving drugs, police corruption, the murder of a teenager and the killing of another local woman.
