EP 115: Jackson Baker - His rookie year on the Championship Tour, The rise of The Wombats, Newcastle’s insane talent pool, Riding pink boards, Competing after loss, His experience at G-Land, and Goals for the rest of the season
Championship Tour rookie Jackson Baker joins the pod to talk about his debut season. He discusses the camaraderie among the young Australian surfers on tour (aka “The Wombats”), how important it is to have a support system in an individualistic sport, following the Brazilians’ blueprint, and all winning together. He looks back at his road to the CT, growing up in Merewhether, being sponsored by Rip Curl since he was eight years old, finding the right competitive headspace after losing his mom, competing on the Challenger Series, and making the Mid-season Cut. He shares why he rides pink boards and wears number 61 on his jersey, describes how his 2020 day job inspired him, explains his long relationship with Channel Islands, talks about the insane talent pool in Newcastle, and looks forward to the events he’s anticipating most to finish out the season.
