Lately I have been very under the weather insomuch that I was barely able to speak at all in my morning prayers. I could not read the word because my eyes hurt so badly. I could only sit in His Presence. I just wanted to be in that posture that I have come to love for most of my life. I thought if I just sit before Him it is where I want to be.
A few days ago while sitting there again, still being mostly unable to speak because of feeling compromised by illness, I said to Him in a whisper, "Lord, I am having trouble speaking, I am too weak." A little while after I heard these words..."to all who love Jesus Christ in sincerity." As the day progressed that verse continued with me, I kept hearing it in my heart. By the end of the day that verse narrowed down to one word, "sincerity."
I thought about it until the following morning. I decided to see what a few of my favorite expositors said about that verse. The original meaning is far stronger, “in-incorruptibility,” a word usually applied to the immortality of heaven. Here in context it evidently means, “with a love immortal and imperishable,” incapable either of corruption or of decay. It directly implies a foretaste of the eternal communion in heaven. It is a sincerity that nothing can draw us off from the love of Christ. It implies an immortal (constant) love. A sincerity of pureness of heart, holy, without the corruption of sin, dedicated and rooted in love.
The idea of what sincerity means to us is that we speak and act with honesty and being real, but not in Greek context. It has all to do with a grace imparted to those who LOVE Jesus Christ in "incorruptibility." So all we do in life is rooted in the love of Jesus Christ and the things we do in common daily life are transformed.
We then do everything backed by the very real, living love of Jesus Christ alive in us. His love transforming everything into incorruptible beauty going ahead into our eternal life. That day when I heard those words from Him, I knew that what He was meaning to me was it was the sincerity, incorruptibility of love in me towards Him that was more accepted than had I spent an hour in verbal praying. This means more to Him than anything.
