Episode 21: The Hybrid Cloud Forecast Series – Outlook: Mainframe Computing
In this episode of the Hybrid Cloud Forecast series, Andre talks with Marcel Mitran, IBM Fellow, CTO Cloud Platform IBM zSystems and LinuxONE, where they delve into zSystems and the role that mainframes play in cloud computing. Marcel explains the different use cases for Linux on z vs. z/OS. They talk about “fit for purpose” requirements, and how zSystems can address data gravity and data security needs in a hybrid cloud solution. Marcel mentions IBM Wazi as a Service, a modern native cloud development environment for applications on z/OS available in IBM Cloud. Marcel shares how businesses are most successful when they bring cloud computing and mainframe worlds together by not sacrificing the qualities of service that mainframes offer. In the future, Marcel sees more collaboration with Quantum computing, and is excited about the new AI accelerator on the z16 system Telum processor. He also sees the confidential computing becoming critical as customers seek technical assurance over their data that resides in a public cloud.
