Have you ever felt the Presence of the Lord? There have been so many times in my life where I felt His real and powerful loving Presence. Other times in great sadness, loss and despair, His Presence of great mighty peace filled the entire room and dried my tears. There have been times while driving, or washing dishes, walking my dog that His Presence has come upon me in joyful surprise.
Then of course times where His Holy Presence filled the whole room and all of us sat in stillness, silence and awe. It was impossible to utter one sound. No one dared or wanted to. There are times of prayer and waiting in quiet repose and meditation His Presence comes in and fills the room. It is so glorious, and yet so deeply humbling.
There are many of the Lord's people that spend unbusied time with Jesus every day, throughout the day and into the night. They do this in the stream of life and living. When a person lives in His Presence, making it the way of life, then the Presence of the Lord surrounds them always. And just like the "Holy Spirit like a dove" that descended from heaven and rested upon Him, will He do upon them. There are many people who live their whole lives in the Lord, only walk into a room and the whole room fills up with the Presence of the Lord. Like Amy Carmichael in her old age.
This is what was said of her: "Those who visited Amma became aware of an unseen and very loveable Presence with her, for everything around her was hallowed by prayer, not for herself but for others. God was the very atmosphere in which she lived. "We are not meant to be unaware of the Presence of One who loves us most of all, to whom all our doings matter."
Elisabeth Elliot in the last six months of her life had dementia and could no longer speak. A woman who worked with her for many decades in her ministry came over to her house for a visit with others from the ministry. When they got there, the homecare worker brought Elisabeth out in a wheelchair. According to her experience she said, "When Elisabeth was brought out, the entire living room filled up with the Presence of the Lord very powerfully. Elisabeth never uttered one word."
Here is a beautiful, timeless quote from Elisabeth Elliot about her own eighty years of life:
"It’s born out of a life consistently, faithfully given over to the will of Christ. I have one desire now: to live a life of reckless abandon for the Lord, putting all my energy and strength into it."
Praise the Lord, let this be your life in Christ, living a life of reckless abandon for the Lord, putting all your strength and energy into it, living in His Presence, dying in His Presence, then going into eternity to live forever in His glorious Presence.
“This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.”
