Today's Takeaway with Florine Mark
Health & Fitness:Mental Health
With Dr. Myra Danish, Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon
According to a published report by The Aesthetics Society, Americans spent over $9 billion on plastic surgery in 2020. In 2021, that figure of $9 billion was easily surpassed. The carefully staged images we continue to see on social media lead to an unrealistic desire for patients who wanted to surgically enhance their features or resemble their favorite celebrities. Over the past two years, face lifts, eye lifts, and rhinoplasties are the most commonly requested procedures. In addition, the growing ability for people to work from home makes it far easier to take a few days off to recover post-surgery.
The latest trend in plastic surgery today is moving away from copying celebrity features, and instead embracing a patient’s individuality. Patients still want to look like themselves, but with an improved and more natural, individualized look. If you’re contemplating getting some work done to enhance your physical beauty, it’s important to be realistic about the desired outcome.
If you want to learn more about the benefits of cosmetic procedures, then you’ll enjoy this week’s updated episode featuring a 2021 interview with Dr. Myra Danish. Dr. Danish provides a great insight into the world of plastic surgery, how to know if you are a candidate for a cosmetic procedure, and the different options available today.

Today’s Takeaway:
Whether you’re seeking a cosmetic procedure because you’re motivated to improve your appearance on video calls or simply because you want to look better, it’s important that you’re doing it for the right reasons. First and most importantly, make sure this is something you’re doing for yourself and not anyone else. If you like the adorable way your eyes crinkle with smile lines or you think the shape of your nose gives you character, then don’t let anyone else convince you otherwise! You’re beautiful just as you are! But if you feel unhappy when you look in the mirror or when you see yourself on ZOOM, then it may be time for a change. Only you know what will help you feel the most beautiful inside and out. Consulting a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options might be the answer. A non-invasive treatment such as Botox or a dermal filler might be an option to help you feel better. Remember that every single day is a gift and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And the most important beholder is you. So start every day by finding one thing about your appearance that you like. For example, do you like the way your legs look in the jeans you’re wearing today? Or do you feel the freckles on your face make you look younger? Go ahead! Talk to the mirror and tell yourself how good you look! Or if you want some change, consult a good plastic surgeon or dermatologist. I talk to the mirror every single day! We all need to be our #1 cheerleader. I’m Florine Mark and that’s “Today’s Takeaway.”
