Your Local Library as a Key Resource to Your Business Development Efforts? You Bet!
Many of us overlook one of the most useful resources in every local community to assist us in not only reading pleasure but job search and, yes, business development for entrepreneurs.
Our host, Steve Eschbach, had the distinct pleasure to share some time with Lindsay Harmon, a very good friend and networking colleague that effective July is a Business Reference Librarian at the Nichols Library in Naperville (one of three in this town). I reacquainted myself with the local library in 2014 when I was an executive in transition and since starting another business two years later I was hooked as to how valuable a resource this is for all things business development.
At your disposal are more than a dozen software platforms to research and analyze companies, fine tune your LinkedIn profile and technical skills with the Microsoft Office suite, gather industry and demographic research as well as read such high profile publications as the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.
Not only that, Lindsay and her staff are more than willing to set up time to meet with you (you do not need to be a Naperville resident to do so, but being a Naperville resident does get you a library card where access to their system’s software can be accessed in your home or office) and they are involved in a number of programs to assist business owners at various stages of their development. Listen to our video podcast to learn more.
Lindsay has been a librarian since 2007 (Lewis University up until 2018 and here in Naperville since then) and has the following degrees: MLIS, Library Services from Dominican University; Certificate in Publishing from the University of Denver; and Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from the University of Iowa. Her LinkedIn profile can be found at https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindsaydharmon/.
