Parental grief is regarded as the one of the most intense and difficult experiences of grief. Layer upon that the shock of a completely unexpected tragedy and you have yourself a cocktail of emotions that no human should have to experience.
Trevor Hone however, is one such human. We spoke to his wife Dr. Lucy Hone back in episode 362, hearing her experience not only as a mother but also quite uniquely as a resilience and grief researcher (an overnight pracademic on the topic).
Amidst Trevor's journey through his grief he afforded the driver responsible for the death of his daughter (along with his good friend and her daughter who were also in the vehicle) his empathy and forgiveness. Something many people if given the same circumstances might grapple to wrap their heads around. It's an incredible and insightful conversation in which we also explore how the dynamics of his wife Dr. Lucy's academic research and speaking career on the topic posed opportunities for healing and thus perhaps for challenges. A useful exploration given the odds around families making it through such circumstances.
Enjoy!
