Season 3 - Episode 7, Steve Kilbey (The Church)
Steve Kilbey is one of the most prolific songwriters around, having released in the region of (roughly) 70 albums and 1,000 songs in his career.
This podcast interview concentrates on Steve's early life and the period in the 1980s where The Church achieved first Australian then worldwide success.
Of course, no interview with Steve is complete without talking about Under the Milky Way from the album Starfish which he wrote with his then-girlfriend, and mother of two of his children, Karin Jansson. That track remains one of the greatest tracks of the 80s, covered by numerous other artists.
His latest album is an acoustic version of The Church's debut album from 1981 - 'of minds and heart', which contains The Unguarded Moment. Steve's a fascinating man, who appears to constantly challenge himself. Enjoy the trip through the 80s, and look forward to another interview later in the year where I will bring the story up to date, and look at his work since 1990.
