When ever the word "sanctification" is used it typically comes across as an antiquated dusty old religious word suitable for the Puritans. People tend to feel that it is severe, and meant for only those who are in high, unattainable religious heights. Especially in these days where millions of believers do not consider that word simply means to "be separated unto God." What could be more beautiful?
The work of Justification happens only once at the moment of a person who believes and receives Jesus Christ as their Savior. The "Just and the Justifier of many."
Then they are indwelt immediately by the Holy Spirit who then works for the rest of their lives to sanctify them. He works to mature believers, to grow them up and make them fruitful unto our Father in heaven. Purging and "purifying their hearts by faith" through the whole landscape of their lives for His eternal glory and theirs.
But there are conditions expected too. A person who is truly alive in Christ will desire to work with the Holy Spirit. They will "not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." The purpose of sanctification is that the Holy Spirit is making you like the Son of God. A true child of the House. He wants to get them to go from glory to glory, "with ever increasing glory."
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:18.
The more truth you believe, the more sanctified you will be. The operation of truth upon the mind is to separate a man from the world unto the service of God. Just in proportion as truth is given up, worldliness and frivolity are sure to prevail. ~ Charles H. Spurgeon
