462 The Royal Law of Love, A Guided Christian Meditation on James 2:6-10 with the Recenter With Christ app
I'm Chaplain Jared and I work as a hospice chaplain and an ICU chaplain. My purpose in making this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and to be more open for your heart to be changed by the Spirit of God. By using centuries old form of Christian Meditation named Lectio Divina:
Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization.
Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes.
Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:
Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate.
Bible verses for Meditation:
James 2
NIV
6 But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?
8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
NASB
6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the good name by which you have been called?
8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the Law as violators. 10 For whoever keeps the whole Law, yet stumbles in one point, has become guilty of all.
Meditation:
This is the only place in scripture where this term royal law shows up. All the laws are given by God, the most royal. The most deserving of veneration and honor. Any command the most Royal God gives, is the royal law. The 10 commandments are the most prominent. Yet when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandments were he quoted Leviticus 19:18, which is to love your neighbor as yourself.
This passage is a powerful challenge. God does not discriminate. He does not consider one life more valuable than another. God challenges us to do the same. God looks upon the heart and so should we. God would have us put aside any artificial distinctions between us. Are the poor less valuable than those who have abundance? Are people who have had a different life experience than us worse, or better?
If God’s desire is to unify our hearts, to help us prioritize the things He values, then what force divides us? What draws us to violate any part of God’s word, his royal law? There is an ever present force seeking to divide and destroy us. We should not yield to such an influence.
Meditation of Prayer:
Pray as directed by the Spirit.
Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him.
Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:
I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials.
Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life:

Final Question: How can you live consistent with the cleansing power God offers you?
This week I performed a funeral for a family from Africa. The amount of family that was physically present was not that large but there were many friends who were just as close as family in some ways and their presence and comfort was amazing.
