Health Update: Scientists Found No Evidence that Depression is Caused by “Chemical Imbalance” or Low Serotonin Levels with Rev. Fred Shaw Jr.
Scientific Tech Daily recently published an article titled, Scientists Found No Evidence that Depression is Caused by “Chemical Imbalance” or Low Serotonin Levels. But if depression isn’t caused by low serotonin levels or a chemical imbalance in the brain, then what’s really going on here?
Rev. Fred Shaw Jr. explains how “depression” is a clinical term used to turn something like extreme sadness into a diagnosable mental illness. Determining that someone has clinical depression is pure theoretical guesswork on the part of the psychiatrist; it is not based on scientific evidence of this individual’s actual brain chemistry.
Once a person has been diagnosed with depression, the psychiatrist then prescribes them with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) to alleviate their depression. Of course, this is based on the assumption that depression is caused by low serotonin levels in the brain, which is false. This is why SSRIs often don’t work and lead to even greater depression and suicidal tendencies over time, which are the very symptoms they are designed to treat and cure.
