#48 Counter for people | 日本語でシャドーイング「人(にん)」

みなさんこんにちは、かなこです！今日のシャドーイングは「Counter for people：人 (にん)」です。

Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “Counting people in Japanese”. The counter for people is “人 (にん)”. However, “one person” is “一人(ひとり)” and “two people” is “二人(ふたり)”. These are the only exceptions so after three, you just need to add “人 (にん)” after the number.

When you go to restaurants or coffee shops, usually you’ll get asked “何名様(なんめいさま)ですか？” which means “How many people?”. You can simply answer with “人(にん)” or if you are alone, you can say “一人(ひとり) です”.

How many people?　何名様(なんめいさま)ですか？

-Two people.　二人(ふたり)です。

How many people?　何名様(なんめいさま)ですか？

-Four people.　 四人(よにん)です。

I have five Japanese friends.　日本人の友達が五人います。

I have three kids.　子供が 三人います。

I have one daughter.　娘が 一人います。

I have two Japanese colleagues.　日本人の同僚が 二人います。
