The 1993 Long Island Rail Road shooting occurred on December 7, 1993, aboard a Long Island Rail Road train in Garden City Park, New York. As the train arrived at Merillon Avenue station, passenger Colin Ferguson began firing at other passengers with a semi-automatic pistol killing 6 and injuring 19. The trial was one of the most bizarre in history as Ferguson chose to represent himself and even questioned his victims on the stand. The trial received some national coverage but was overshadowed by the much larger O.J. Simpson murder trial going on simultaneously on the West coast.
