In this AHDB Food & Farming podcast episode, we turn our attention to one of a number of new trade deals that the UK will be signing over the course of the next few years, and that is the UK-New Zealand free trade agreement. There has been intense scrutiny over the impacts this new trade deal will have on the UK supply chain, so we have partnered with Harper Adams University to model the impact of the trade deal and provide economic analysis. AHDB’s Senior Market Analyst, Amandeep Kaur Purewal, discusses whether it is likely to be a threat or an opportunity for UK producers and explains the likely impact on the UK supply chain.
Also joining us on this special edition podcast, is Frances Duignan - Senior Manager for International Trade at Beef and Lamb New Zealand, along with kiwi beef and sheep farmer Mal Poulton who farms in the North Island of New Zealand. They explain the opportunities the trade deal can present to different markets and tell us about how their production systems vary from the UK, including the pressures they are facing in the rising cost of production. They are well placed to share their views about the UK/New Zealand trade deal and provide a glimpse into the livestock farming methods in the southern hemisphere.
