A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Sunday 9th Feb 1873 In this sermon, Spurgeon seeks to expose the nature of human sin. With his usual independence of thought, he speaks of the human conscience. He shows that this too has been corrupted by our sin, and therefore often fails to correct us. He goes on to show how contrary we are to the ways of God. It gives us an excellent insight into ourselves, if we will be willing to hold it up as a mirror. This sermon seems to end quite abruptly, since the preacher appears to have run out of time. I am sure he would have wanted to say more about the remedy in Christ. It begins with a poem by George Herbert. Spurgeon and his wife used often to read Herbert’s poems to each other on Lord's Day evenings.
