EP295 - Unpacking Embodied Sexuality and Religious Shame ft Jenny McGrath
Welcome to episode 295 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Jenny McGrath to the podcast. In this episode, we discuss her study Transnationalizing Purity, understanding purity culture and how purity shows up in the bedroom for adult women.
Jenny McGrath (She/Her) MA, LMHC, is a somatic psychotherapist, movement educator, and researcher based out of Seattle. She works primarily with white, cisgender women who grew up in fundamentalist Christianity who are healing from religious sexual shame and sexual abuse. She researches purity culture and its impact on individual and collective bodies.
Her current study, Transnationalizing Purity, looks at the intersections of those socialized within purity culture and their decisions to do development or ministry work internationally.
She recently released an online course, Embodied Sexuality, that offers comprehensive teachings about the impact of purity culture as well as sex education that most folks who grew up in abstinence only education never learned.
