Faith and Liberty
May we bring God back into our country so that we can bring liberty back into our hearts. Faith in self gives access to all our personal powers; faith in others gathers around us needed support to strengthen our weaknesses; faith in God brings down the powers of heaven and creates miracles.
A country that does not support self-reliance, free enterprise, and freedom of conscience is not free. The first responsibility of a republic is to create an environment where self-reliance is primary, and individualism is protected. We must rid ourselves of the idea that man is merely a biological machine and that freewill does not exist. The moment that government takes upon itself the responsibility of creating men as equal, it replaces God and becomes the devil’s own tyrant. A country that does not believe in freewill will treat everyone as slaves, make invalids of its people, and mold its citizens according to the whims of the moment and rule with the club of political correctness.
A government that does not believe that all men are created equal by God will slide into socialism. The casualties of socialism are freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, freedom of personal enterprise, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom of thought, and freedom of self-expression. We must recognize the difference between God creating man as equal and government creating man as equal. If God creates man as equal, then man has the freedom to create himself and become whatever he wants to become, to follow his dreams. Divinely inspired inequality will always be the fruit of true equality. If government creates man as equal, we become clones of one another, patterned after the lowest, and freedom is oppressed. Competition is at the core of democracy. Socialism takes away individual incentive. Freedom created by God helps us reach our potential; freedom created by government imposes restrictions, chains us to regulations, and pulls everyone down to the lowest level. Government creates clones. God releases freewill. To government we are fish in a bowl restricted by our environment; to God we are sons and daughters in a vast, unfathomable universe, made free forever by our faith.
Absolute boundaries are necessary for freedom. The boundaries established by God never change. Laws never change. Virtues never change. Right and wrong never change. In a fallen world such as ours, made of imperfect people, the fruits of absolute equality will always be the cornucopia of bountiful inequality. Only where people are allowed to perfect their gifts can faith flourish. Out of self-reliance will grow strength. Out of individuality will grow variety. Out of variety will grow prosperity. A democratic republic can only survive where all three levels of faith are in effect. Take even one away and democracy will fall, and totalitarianism will take its place.
Freedom requires courage. With freedom will come triumph and disappointment, success and failure, but only in opposition can we grow strong in faith. Faith is the foundation of freedom. A socialist government will degrade everyone to the lowest common denominator. A free government will lift everyone toward the level of their noblest desires. Those who rise to the top light the way for others. Under socialism, we become diminished creatures blown out of proportion by artificially created perceptions. Faith expands our expectations, causing us to reach beyond ourselves. Faith in self carries us to enormous peaks. Faith in others broadens our opportunities. Faith in God turns our sights to heaven.
