The Dozier School for Boys by Elizabeth A. Murray
Boys in Florida from 1900 to into the 2000s could be sentenced to a school for boys if they committed a crime, or were truant from school. Some parents actually agreed to send their boys there, hoping it would set them on a good path for the future. But for the boys sent to the school, it was often not a place of learning but a place of pain and horror. Not until the boys became grown men did many of them finally speak to the terrible things that were actually happening at the school. This is the story of that school and some of the boys who made it out, because not all did.
Recommended for grades 8 and up.
