When we think of the word "legacy" we think about it in terms of what a person builds on this earth and attaches it with their name. But it is not the case in the believer's life. I was thinking about the legacies built up in people's lives like Abraham who in his old age "staggered not at the promises of God through unbelief, but was strong in the faith giving glory to God."
"Jacob worshipped the Lord leaning upon the top of his staff." There are many lives written about in the Bible of men and women from youth to old age who left behind holy, beautiful legacies. I was listening to Dr. Charles Stanley who was in a candid interview who spoke about leaving a legacy. I was deeply moved. I began to think of what I was leaving people with as I live on earth before many people.
What kind of legacy are you leaving people with? A believer's legacy is how they live consistently among people all their lives. They have yielded up their lives long ago to God in always being obedient. Even in the hardest trials. They never waver or swerve from it. They just keep going on in Christ. Even if it means loss of relationship and loneliness. The whole point of legacy is your whole life. Whatever you want to leave in a legacy you want it to be left in the hearts and minds of people.
Not with material things that will fade away. It is what you live for and what you stand for. You live in that strong God given conviction all the way to the end because you love Him. And what you leave people with should make them want to pick up and carry what you left behind in their hearts into others. You leave behind an eternal stream of the committed love of Jesus Christ. Your life should burn a holy, glorious memory in them that changes their lives forever. It says in Hebrews 11:5, "Enoch had this testimony, that he pleased God." This should be your testimony too.
"A Christian's life is not about having possessions, their riches are their identity in Christ." ~Oswald Chambers
