Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
In this Dhamma session, we examine these teachings of the Buddha titled "one who lives by the Dhamma" (dhammavihārī) from Dhammavihārī Suttas (AN 5.73-74). The Buddha goes through the different ways we develop our spiritual practice (learning, declaring, reciting, reflecting and practising) and where we can fall short.
We also refresh ourselves on the importance of learning True Dhamma, the Buddha's learning system and nine-fold classification of the teachings, as well as the important connection with the trainee or learner quality of "bahussuta" or very learned (having heard much).
Through understanding what the Buddha is emphasising in these suttas — that is, understanding the meaning of the Dhamma with wisdom and prioritising solitude or seclusion to practise what has been heard or learned to attain to the higher concentrations of mind — we can make spiritual progress and correct any misconceptions we might have around the different forms of practice.
We also look into useful examples from the Dhammapada to help us penetrate this Dhamma.
