On December 8th, 1980, Mark David Chapman stood outside of John Lennon's New York residence and asked for his autograph. Later that night as Lennon returned home from the recording studio, Chapman fired five hollow point bullets at Lennon's back, striking him four times. Lennon was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
