Among the items left from Tuesday's introductory press confab for Patrick Beverley was some commentary from Darvin Ham on the health of guard Kendrick Nunn. He missed all of last season with a bone bruise in his knee, and has been working towards full recovery throughout the summer. Some reports indicate it might be going a little slower than hoped, though Nunn himself seemed to refute that. For his part, Ham says he thinks Nunn has looked "great," though seemed to indicate that's been in individual workouts and in the weight room, as opposed to full five-on-five sessions.
That's not necessarily a big problem at this point - it's only early September - but for many fans, until they see Nunn on the floor doing everything he's supposed to do, without restrictions, there's going to be some concern.
And rightly, because Nunn is super-important for any opportunity the Lakers have to exceed expectations. Not because he's an All-Star, but because he's a legit scorer who can help stretch the floor with a 3-point shout, and amounts to the team's best free agent acquisition. Yes, he's not new, but he might as well be. So what does it do to the guard rotation if he's available, now that the Lakers have added Beverley? And what does it mean for Lonnie Walker IV, by the way? The Lakers big money acquisition (big money for them, at least) this offseason?
Darvin Ham could have some interesting choices to make, no question.
From there, we revisit Tuesday's show, and comments left on the Locked On Lakers YouTube page. A listener-provided addition to the Department of Corrections and Retractions, along with some robust defense of Utah guard Mike Conley and his potential value to the Lakers. And would adding young wing defender Jarred Vanderbilt to a potential deal with the Jazz make it worth giving up a second first-rounder?
HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky
