Today I discuss cognitive errors that even the smartest people make in therapy, such as:
1. 50 sessions with a therapist I don't really make progress with is better than 5 with a therapist that I do make progress with
2. There's no urgency in fixing my marriage unless we are about to divorce
3. A therapist knows exactly what I need to work on by mind reading so it's okay to not share what I'm really hoping to work on (it's shameful and she ought to magically pick it up anyway)
4. My partner is the problem! Let's talk only about them to distract from talking about me.
5. A therapist is magical so no matter what defenses I put up, s/he can move around them and get into my psyche without any effort on my part
