Lakers fans have been looking for signs all season that Russell Westbrook is on his way out of town. This week, we learned his 13,500 square foot Brentwood home is indeed on the market. Does that mean the trade rumors are coming to fruition? Is he on his way out of town?
Not so fast. Ever since it turned out Kevin Garnett buying a house in Malibu didn't in fact mean he was a Future Laker, we've understood the relationship between real estate deals and NBA transactions is tenuous. Could Westbrook know something we don't? Obviously. He's been on the block all summer, and nothing outwardly has changed with his situation. Maybe inwardly - meaning with Westbrook, Rob Pelinka and so on - some agreement has finally been forged. But... probably one doesn't really have much to do with the other. Westbrook, even if he's traded to Salt Lake City, won't be playing there and still will own a house in Los Angeles.
So sorry Lakers fans. Westbrook may be traded yet, but the house was likely going on the market either way.
Meanwhile...
The Lakers have some questions facing them once camp opens. A big one? What does the starting lineup look like? It's easy to come up with the five people you THINK will be suiting up for Darvin Ham at the opening jump ball this season. But who SHOULD be in that group? And what exactly does "should" mean in this context?
