Episode 6: What Drives Excellence with Dr. Chuck Douville

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Chuck Douville, Division Chief of Surgery at Providence St. Vincent, who is an advocate of servant leadership.

Dr. Douville shares with us the influences that made a positive impact in his life and his career in the healthcare arena. He shares what he believes as the factors that drive excellence in people which include listening and understanding, being a learner, and being consistent.

We discuss teams and dealing with difficult situations. He then explains how listening and empathy play a great role in setting up people for success.

Finally, Dr. Douville enlightens us about the “sacred trust” that is earned from patients and teams. He shares the three important questions that make leading teams sacred: “Do you care about me?” “Can I trust you?” “Is there hope?”
