Alex Ovechkin care more about team goals not individual goals. The battle at center for the Washington Capitals
In this Episode of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Alex Ovechkin and his goal chase after Gordie Howe and the when Gretzky. Alex said that personal goals are nice, but ultimately he's got his eyes on a greater prize:
"I'm at the age that personal goals are nice, but we understand every year [you get closer] to the end of your career," the 37-year-old forward said. "So I just want to win. I want to be in the playoffs and fight for the Cup."
Alex then goes on to talk about how the Capitals will really need to step up in Nicklas Backstrom's absence:
"The most important thing is everybody has to be healthy, and we have to make the playoffs," Ovechkin said. "That first 20 games is very important so you have to [earn] points, so if you're going to have some ups and downs during the season you still have those points. … You don't want to play for only six months. You want to play for eight months and play for the Cup."
Later in the show Dan talks about the battle for the center position on the Capitals. Lars Eller is penciled in to be the third line center, but there are other young players on the team hungry to earn to battle for that and other positions. Most notable Connor McMichael and Hendrix Lapierre
