I recorded this episode for The Code 9 Foundation (they're brilliant and I'm an ambassador for the wonderful work they do). In it I'm speaking with Carmen Butcher, Detective Sergeant from the Northern Territory Police.
Back in 2006, amidst a three week police study tour in Egypt Carmen was convinced she was about to die. As her tour group were returning to Cairo after a day trip, the bus in front of hers rolled four times, killing six Australians and leaving 26 seriously injured. Carmen sat awake on her bus watching people get thrown out the windows as the bus in front of her was turning over.
What came next was equally harrowing and displays the sheer courage and selflessness that Carmen possesses... traits that shine through not only in this particular experience but also in other parts of Carmen life.
She's quite a human.
