Pt I B: Mortality vs. Immortality cont.
We are so glad you joined us. If you missed our last podcast, we recommend that you first listen to Season 3 Podcast 204 Pt I A before listening to Podcast Pt I B. This is a continuation of Pt I A and will help you keep the continuity.
In the Christian view, in pre-mortality we lived as spirits with God called our First Estate. In Jude we read,
6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 1)
Living as spirits with God, we were all brothers and sisters equal in the sight of God. Jude is referring to Lucifer and the other fallen angels as the ones who did not keep their first estate. John the Revelator refers to that as the War in Heaven
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12)
Those of us who fought with Michael against Lucifer were allowed to come to earth and gain a physical body. It logically follows that this is our Second Estate. In the pre-mortal existence, we were subject only to spiritual laws. In mortality we are subject to both spiritual laws and mortal laws. We became subject to death because of the fall of Adam. When we die, we will go to the spirit world where we will wait for the resurrection and the final judgment. Peter tells us
10 “For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.” (1 Peter 4:10.)
After the resurrection and final judgment, we will be assigned a kingdom of glory according to our works in the flesh. In the final judgment we will be judged by Christ according to our works while we lived in the Second (or mortal) Estate. Paul tells us
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
But, of course, according to the law of opposites, where there is a heaven, there must be a hell.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
For those who reject God because they object to hell must understand that if there is a heaven there must also be a hell. To have mercy you must have justice, to have good, you must have evil, to have moral you must have immoral, to have God you must have Satan.
