In 1968, conservative editor and TV host William F. Buckley, Jr. and liberal provocateur and playwright Gore Vidal, engaged in a series of debates during the two presidential conventions. The tumult of the times was matched by the conflict between these two intellectuals. Featured in the 2015 documentary, "Best of Enemies," (Magnolia Pictures) these debates heralded the age of television punditry and news as entertainment. We examine the most famous of these debates and discuss debate and argument philosophy.
