The Journey of Jack Of The Dust: Interview with Andy Firth
In this episode, Alicia interviews artist Andy Firth, aka Jack of the Dust. The Australian “skullptor” uses the form of the human skull as his canvas. Due to the overwhelming demand for his work, Firth’s artwork is now only attainable through a limited number of public releases per year, with the total creative process taking up to four months to complete. The skulls are handmade from various mixed materials, most commonly a cinema-grade Special FX urethane resin imported from the U.S. to replicate the look and feel of real bone. Beginning in 2013, Firth has grown Jack Of The Dust to a full-time crew of 15, creating truly unique handmade skulls based in Australia that ship worldwide. The new studio occupies 7,500 square feet (split over two locations) on the Gold coast. With a combined social presence of 2.5 million followers, Firth feels like he has only just scratched the surface of the art world. Listen to this episode for an inspiration boost from an established, successful creative entrepreneur who carved his own path in the art world.
