Most breast pumps come with one or two standard sizes: a 24mm or a 28mm flange. Did you know there is no evidence to suggest that these are the standard sizes that most people use? These are the sizes that pump manufacturers provided, therefore that is what we used. Many Lactation professionals and those who help people pump, including host Lo Nigrosh, are now discovering that when they help people find the proper size while pumping that the comfort level of pumping increases significantly, as does the milk output. Spoiler Alert: most people do not wear the standard 24mm or 28mm sizes. In this episode learn how to know if your flanges are fitting properly, and how to fit yourself if you aren’t wearing the correct size.To get individualized lactation support from me, Lo, (including flange fittings both in person and virtually) go here. For more episodes about pumping and milk supply check these out:Episode 36: Increasing Milk Output While PumpingEpisode 46: Hand Expression Simplified with Francie WebbEpisode 51: When There is No Easy Button (an Exclusive Pumping Story with Jen Burgard)Head to Apple Podcasts or Spotify for more episodes!Join The Milk Making Minutes Facebook Group to talk about the structural barriers that make breastfeeding so difficult and work together to chip away at each one.To buy books about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and parenting, and to support the show while doing it, go to my bookshop!Follow me on IG @milkmakingminutespodcast to laugh about breastfeeding and to see photos of guests!
